Routescene participates in GIS Day 2017 by exploring UAV LiDAR technology

We celebrate GIS Day 2017 today by exploring UAV LiDAR and the new reality this technology brings, transforming the collecting and processing of geographical or spatial data from traditionally a time-consuming processing to nearly instantaneous. When ESRI introduced the first formal GIS DAY in 1999, it provided a forum to demonstrate the impact of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in our societies. Since then, more and more people have realised the importance of learning more about GIS, new GIS technologies such as LiDAR and their applications.
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a non-intrusive method to obtain detailed and precise geo-referenced datasets. LiDAR, particularly using a UAV, can be used in situations where physical access to land is limited, hazardous or otherwise too costly to access. To help us simplify the benefits of UAV LiDAR, we asked our own GIS/LiDAR Analyst, Andre Tapadinhas, who recently returned from University of Lisbon where he spoke about its’ key advantages to GIS postgraduate students and researchers.
