Routescene 3D LiDAR technology helps map radiation levels at Chernobyl
Posted on February 12, 2020 in Media
Researchers from University of Bristol, UK and National Centre for Nuclear Robotics (NCNR) conducted a project to create a map of radiation levels in areas close to Chernobyl nuclear power plant. As part of this project they used a Routescene drone 3D LiDAR system and LidarViewer Pro software.
Over a period of 10 days the team flew a variety of remote sensors on drones to map and measure levels of radiation. This allowed the team to be based at a safe distance away from the contaminated site. They covered an area of approximately 6 square miles and the sites included the village of Buriakiva and the surrounding Red Forest. The Routescene UAV LiDAR System was used to create 3D digital terrain models for areas of interest.
